Rare opportunity to equip yourself with a piece of British cultural history.
This is a large freestanding or wall-mountable architectural frame. The person I bought it from said it originally housed a copper plaque, likely a ceremonial panel or large signage, suggesting a significant institutional or ceremonial use.

The frame is constructed in a classical architectural style, featuring two fluted Corinthian style columns with acanthus leaf detail on the base plinth, a dentil-moulded cornice, and a heavy moulded base. It has strong neoclassical influences and a dramatic visual presence.

It’s made from solid hardwood, oak. Needless to say, it's extremely heavy. The carved elements seem to be hand done, particularly evident in the variation of the leaf scrollwork and the panel depth at the base.

Each column face is incised with the iconic Freemasons’ square and compasses emblem, symbolising morality, balance, and craftsmanship. The presence of these symbols strongly suggests this was part of a Masonic Lodge interior, possibly used as a framing structure behind a dais or altar.

The structure overall is sound, though there is visible wear, with some chipping to the lower edges and flaking to areas of the finish. There’s also some paint residue on the rear edges. To the top right side corner, there is a piece of wood missing, which you can see in the images.

I'm selling this exactly as I found it—I haven’t attempted to restore it, as I have no idea what someone might want to do with it. You might want to repaint it, touch it up, or simply leave it as-is for the patina. That’s entirely up to you.

This piece is visually commanding and carries strong symbolic and historical weight. It could be returned to ceremonial use in a heritage Masonic Lodge, used in a theatrical or set design context, or—more likely—fitted with a custom mirror to become a unique, imposing, and quirky statement piece in a home, office, or gallery.

If you're looking at this, chances are you already know what you want it for, so I won’t rabbit on.

Masonic architectural furniture like this is rarely found outside of large-scale clearances, and even more rarely with emblems intact and carvings in this condition. Make no mistake—this is a genuinely rare and significant historical artefact.
