Huge Painted Over Mantel Mirror Oak Mantle Farrow and Ball Wimborne White
The mirror has the thick original glass. This is well preserved. There are a few patches of greying to the base of the glass and bottom right hand corner. The glass contributes the very heavy weight of the piece that I would date at about 1870.
It is made of pine with the frontage being strips of thick oak.
It has a solid pine panelled back.
Very much a superior quality mirror.
I have roughly sanded the original finish to key the surface in. I have then applied three coats of primer and a further three coats of Farrow and Ball Wimborne White Estate Eggshell.
Farrow and Ball say-
This just off white is named after the market town of Wimborne in Dorset and home to Farrow & Ball. Only a shade away from a pure white, the addition of the smallest amount of warm yellow pigment creates a very versatile shade which is just a little softer than All White.
As you can see in the images it is in very good condition. There are minor flaws and dents, concealed by the paint but still visible close-up. I did not want to sand and fill to perfection and lose the age worn effect. However, there is nothing really to note except over the years the small piece of cornice to the right-hand side has been lost and been replaced with an amateur repair. As it is to the side it does not really notice.
