A very attractive late Victorian over wall mirror.
It is very good quality and still well preserved.
The mirror frame is made of wood which has been covered in a moulded gesso with the original finish still in situ.
It looks as if this has been wire woolled as the original gold actually has quite a sharpness to it in places. Other parts remain untouched so you have a nice mix of the original unadulterated finish with some fresher aspects which makes a nice blend.
To the outside of the frame is a ring of droplets and some of these are missing, a short and long run to the top of the frame and quite a few short ones to the bottom. Obviously if you like perfection this probably isn't for you but I think they don't really notice too badly and actually add a little character and authenticity.
I have to say the original bevelled glass is in superb condition for the age.
This is a beautiful mirror it really is of the highest quality and very attractive. You can of course reconfigure the chain and mirror place to the back so that you can hang it the other way and you'll see in the images there is a plywood backing.
