Huge Classic Antique Vintage Old English Oak Mid 19th Century Oak Trunk or Coffer FREE HAND Delivery

A mid 1800s and beautiful, huge oak trunk or coffer, constructed of 100% solid old English oak.

The front panels feature geometric designs with intersecting lines with arcade carvings along the top front. a typical feature of late Tudor and early Stuart period furnishings of which this is reproduction of, albeit and antique one.

It is of fine quality, although the rustic three plank top is fairly basic, there is a small shard of wood missing in the underside of an intersection.

Made of beautiful oak that has aged wonderfully leaving the beautiful patina you see.

It presents very well. Interestingly, there are two stamps to the right hand side which may well be a manufacturers stamp.

The inside is well preserved and clean.

Bearing in mind the age the condition is very good. There are two noticeable faults.

To the back corner there is a very small area of woodworm which has eroded a little. The woodworm was ancient and doused it with woodworm fluid and wood hardener. I have to say for the age though this is in very good condition, these trunks were often left in damp hallways and suffer all sorts of wood deteriorations.

To the bottom of the front metal panel somebody has obviously kicked it at some point and you can see signs of a split. The loose pieces of wood still sit perfectly OK and the only evidence of the trauma are some splits I have shown in the images. One could argue this actually just adds a little historic authenticity a reminder that even all these hundreds of years ago people used to have hissy fits and tantrums, I wonder what caused it?

Delivery is to the front door. Should the item be large the courier will need a hand your end or contact us and we will arrange a more expensive two man delivery.
