The 1970s saw many gilt wooden mirrors being made and enjoyed by the consumer. They were top quality mirrors, but not overly fussy and were accessible. They had quality glass in them, and the wooden frames had some attractive detail to them but were not OTT. This particular mirror is one of those – very pretty finish to a gold frame, and a quality piece. What I have done to give this mirror a little bit of pizzazz is hand finished the frame to expose some white underneath giving it a lovely bespoke finish of gold and cream …. Making it a little more unusual.
The frame is made of wood with a moulded covering and the original gold finish, which as I have said, I have hand finished and sanded down to expose some lighter colours - it now resembles cream and gold.
The condition overall is very good vintage. The finish I have given hides any major signs of age on the frame, and now it has a wonderful aged finish, but it looks aged rather than old and worn. Of course you might still seen a couple of age related marks, and there are a couple of tiny pieces of the inner frame missing, including on the outside of the frame, but nothing too concerning. Importantly, the glass is quality and except for a couple of time marks is vgc.
Boarded backing with a hook for hanging vertically or portrait.
