When I buy my stock and research it for online sales, there is nothing more satisfying than finding information out about a picture which was previously unknown to me. This is a case in point etching. I knew it was old, and I knew it probably had a story because of the signature and age. So on investigation I have found that it is a signed, Gallery Proof of an etching by Andrew Watson Turnbull (1874-1957) likely from early 1900s of Loch Lomond. As Watson Turnbull was Scottish this made complete sense. It is a wonderful depiction of a Scottish Landscape and is framed in a lovely simple vintage glazed frame. Perfect for displaying.
A gallery proof, especially one that is signed, is a top quality and collectible item. This one in particular is a quality etching of a very well known Scottish landscape and by a Scottish artist. So hugely collectible and something to be displayed in a home or office or hotel in Scotland perhaps? or as a gift to someone from the area. Signed by Andrew Watson Turnbull himself! Gallery Proof emboss on the bottom left.
The etching itself is in very good condition. Some marking around the edge of the cream print where the mount has discoloured onto the print paper. Also some other minor signs of age, but overall in good condition. The mount is original and has discoloured as I say - can be kept for its authentic vintage look. Frame is a lovely simple wooden frame which seems to have been stained at some point and now the stain is peeling off in places - as per the mount, very vintage aged look and can be left as is. Has string on the back so ready to hang.
Wonderful Scottish piece of memorabilia.
Size : frame approx 44cm x 36.5cm, aperture within mount 31cm x 22cm
