This charming early 1900s (likely 1930s) folding camping stool embodies the craftsmanship and practicality of vintage outdoor furniture. Featuring a sturdy solid wood frame, likely crafted from oak or beech, the stool is designed for durability and ease of transport. The seat is made from original striped canvas, displaying a classic pattern in muted tones, characteristic of early 20th-century camping and expedition gear.
Compact and lightweight, this stool was designed for portability, folding neatly for travel or storage. Over time, the wood has developed a rich patina, and the canvas retains its vintage charm, although it is very marked. It is still a beautiful and functional collector's piece. The canvas is held into position with some lovely large pins on each side – these show discolouration and remain charming. The fitments on the wooden frame are a little rusty as you would expect but still work wonders. Some corners are frayed.
Whether used for display, as a period-correct camping accessory, or as a unique decorative accent, this stool is a wonderful reminder of early outdoor adventuring.
The wooden frame is still very solid and has been wiped down and stained to preserve its look. It is still marked and shows its age. The canvas seat is not clean; it has worn incredibly well with only fraying on the corners and is still very taut when opened. It is marked and essentially shows its wear. I have looked into how canvas of this age can be cleaned, and it seems straightforward but I haven’t tackled this. Please see photos and video for more info on condition.
