This is a serpentine-front sideboard or possibly a dressing chest, likely dating from the early to mid-20th century and inspired by Georgian and Edwardian designs.

The front features a graceful concave and convex curve, known as the serpentine profile, adding refinement and period elegance. It’s constructed from mahogany with beautifully detailed inlaid veneer. The timber has a warm, medium-golden tone with a rich grain that reflects natural light beautifully.

There are five drawers in total, all relatively clean and running smoothly, with a few marks to the bottom of the drawers, nothing serious, with original brass bail pull handles and decorative escutcheons. The piece stands on tapering legs ending in small caster wheels, while the arched apron on the underside of the front further enhances its classic styling.

The lower surface is in excellent condition with only minor wear consistent with age. The top has turned lighter, presumably from the sun, and shows a few surface marks.

The wood finish retains a healthy lustre, likely cleaned, oiled, or lightly refinished in recent years. There are no visible chips, cracks, or swelling.

Originally made as a sideboard, it’s perfect for dining rooms, hallways, or living spaces to store linens, flatware, or homewares. Paired with a vintage mirror, it could also serve beautifully as a dressing table in a bedroom or boutique-style dressing area, though note the height may make legroom limited for seated use.

Delivery is free to mainland England and Wales only.
There will be a cost anywhere else so please, contact us for a quote.
This will cost us between £60-80 to deliver, so if you wish collect from Lewes in East Sussex we will refund the saved courier charges.
The couriers will arrange a day and time window with you.
Delivery is to the front door. Should the item be large the courier will need a hand your end or contact us and we will arrange a more expensive two man delivery.
It will take about 2 weeks.
