This is a fascinating and quality vintage piece that originally would have been part of a dressing table set up or supported by a stand at the back, though there’s little evidence remaining to confirm which. Designed to move forward and backward on an axis, it is no longer functional as such but maintains an interesting and decorative appeal.
The mirror itself, along with its beautifully detailed frame, is crafted as a separate unit, with the mirror still retaining its original ability to tilt on the axis. To adapt it for modern use, I have securely attached two brass mirror plates to the back, allowing it to hang safely and sturdily on a wall. The oval mirror sits snugly within the axis mechanism, providing both a functional and decorative feature that exudes charm. When mounted, it looks absolutely fantastic, with a quirky and whimsical style that adds a real sense of vintage fun.
Made in the 1970s from a moulded composite material, it still retains its original light cream painted finish with gold highlights, adding a subtle elegance to its design. While there are some minor chips in a few areas, as visible in the images, these do not detract from the overall appeal of the piece, which is in very good condition for its age.
