Classic Early 20th Century Coal Pedonium Scuttle Bucket Art Nouveau Top Quality Solid Oak.
A blend of utility and elegance, capturing the fluid, organic motifs that define the Art Nouveau movement.
Crafted from solid oak, the scuttle has a rich, warm tone with visible wood grain, showcasing the high quality of the craftsmanship. Oak is a durable, strong material, often used for its robustness and natural beauty in functional items from this period.
The Art Nouveau style, prevalent in the early 1900s, is characterized by intricate, flowing lines and natural forms.
Traditionally used for holding and carrying coal to stoke fires, this piece is sturdy yet ornate, making it both practical and decorative. Its top-quality construction ensures durability, and the Art Nouveau elements elevate it beyond mere functionality, turning it into a statement piece for any hearth.
After over 100 years of use, it is in a remarkably well-preserved condition.
The oak has the original mid stained finish. This helps to accentuate the lovely design, the beautiful original handles, and the carved panel. There is some minor wear to the finish on the very top surface, and apart from that I would describe the exterior condition as very good.
Please take a good look at all of the images and utilise the zoom in facility to check the condition.
The inner lining is still intact although it is missing one of the handles.
Of course scuttles are very much used these days for storage of kindling and other newer combustible forms as well as coal.
