A wonderful pair of 1900s hand painted lithograph prints by Marjorie C Bates, famous accomplished British artist, of Chester. The one is of Eastgate Street and the other is of Uncle Tom's Cabin. Marjorie Bates painted lots of village, town and landscape scenes which became published prints such as these. She also drew and painted scenes for greeting cards, books etc and also did portraits and larger scale paintings.
Marjorie Bates was born in Melbourne, Derbyshire, being the younger daughter of George and Emily Bates. George Bates made a considerable fortune in the manufacture of mosquito nets. She was born in 1886 and died in 1962. She studied at the Nottingham School of Art, and was a member of the Royal Academy. An American history fundi has made this video on Marjorie :

These prints are wonderful detailed drawings of town scenes in Chester. They capture the Eastgate Street and Uncle Tom's Cabin in finite detail. They are so lifelike.
The prints would make a wonderful gift for someone who lives in or knows Chester, as well as someone who appreciates and collectors the work of British female artists. And of course for someone who loves architecture and townscape scenes.
The prints are in vg condition, they are mounted in a hard beige mount which does have some markings on it, and the black wooden frames are a bit worn in places. The one print's mount has water markings on the top right. The original wooden backings are still in place showing the wonderful vintage age/antique age of these prints. They are still incredibly charming and can be displayed as is.
