Age Worn Vintage Victorian Gilt Gold Wall Mirror.
Age worn is probably a good description.
As you can see in the images, fundamentally it is an incredibly attractive Victorian gold framed mirror. It is made of solid wood which has been covered in a moulded gesso and the original finish that you see. Why it is age worn is because the finish has worn in places and you can see the white of the gesso underneath.
This is particularly prevalent along the very bottom stretch which I have shown in the images.
It also has a new plywood backing although the wood is old. It is the original glass which is basically well preserved but does have some black spotting, but nothing more than you would expect from a mirror of this age.
It has the original metal eyelets and some, what looks like gardening wire. Currently the frame looks absolutely beautiful, flaws’n’all. Lovely decoration and the darker hues which have over time give it a real authentic aged look.
