Set within a beautifully aged metal frame and glazed for protection, this piece preserves the classic cartography of the famed Blaeu mapmakers, renowned for their historical accuracy and artistry.
The Blaeu maps were originally created back in the 1600s - they were the first example of showing the two hemispheres in this way. They were exceptionally large and dedicated to the Papal administration. This wonderful vintage print actually has the history and detail of these maps written on it in the bottom gold box.
This particular print is likely from the 1980s and is a wonderful reminder of these magnificent historical items. It is mounted carefully in a grey mount and has a gold metal frame, it is glazed and ready to hang. The quality of the print is exceptional and it is in very good condition. The mount too is in good condition although it looks like the right hand side has had some fading from the sun. The frame is in very good vintage condition although it does have marks and scratches from use and storage. Some of the back tape is also coming loose but can be easily reaffixed or replaced.
