This is an outstanding vintage bespoke hand-painted side table seat, Julio.
Almost certainly originally made for a telephone, this would look fantastic anywhere in the house and can fulfil numerous practical purposes. It would be fantastic as an entryway piece.
Made in the 1950s or 60s, it is constructed from solid oak and oak veneer on board.
It is in very well preserved condition, as it was exceptionally well made.
Distinctive linen fold decoration and numerous other lovely decorative features enhance its charm.
It has been hand-painted in what I would describe as a dark turquoise. This appears to have been applied over a white undercoat. The result is that certain areas have been sanded down to expose some of the wood underneath and the white undercoat, leaving an amazing contemporary distressed finish.
The inside is painted as well, and the door works smoothly with beautiful door furniture.
The top has been stripped and appears to have been either polished or oiled.
Someone has performed an excellent transformation on this piece, upcycling it into this beautiful contemporary piece of furniture. As with all hand-painted furniture, do expect some idiosyncrasies in the finish and visible brush strokes.
