This substantial Victorian copper and brass coal scuttle, dating from around 1880–1900, is a striking piece of 19th-century English fireplace design. Handcrafted from heavy-gauge metal, it features a generous curved body, broad rim, and robust riveted seams. The double handles — one arched for carrying and a smaller rear handle for tipping — are solidly attached with decorative mounts, typical of high-quality Victorian metalwork. The surface displays an evocative aged verdigris patina, with natural green oxidation and dark brown tones that highlight its age and authenticity.

Originally used to store coal or kindling beside the hearth, this antique scuttle is now equally at home as a decorative fireside accessory, log holder, or statement planter. Its sculptural shape and weathered patina give it timeless appeal, making it an ideal addition to both rustic country homes and modern interiors seeking antique texture and depth. The condition is good for its age, solid and stable with attractive wear and oxidation consistent with genuine 19th-century use.

Clearly an aged and tarnished finish. But in solid condition - appears to be missing a handle on the top rim. No holes or cracks.

Approx dimensions : 44cm d, 40cm h and 30cm w
