A truly wonderful retro gesso ornate frame displaying a superb quality print of an original painting by Deborah Jones. Jones was a prolific British artist and theatre designer in the early 1900s to early 2000s. She loved to paint quirky backstreet shops, particularly antique shops. This painting shows Cottle Antiques down a backstreet, with wonderful detail as to the wares in the said shop and the charming street scene. It is a glazed print in excellent condition - in a gesso frame which is delightful and very vintage - quite shabby chic and somewhat worn. All ready to hang - lovely landscape horizontal picture.
Professionally framed and possibly redone by a gallery in Bexhill. The frame has some missing pieces of gesso which is not unsurprising as gesso breaks easily especially when it is exposed to the elements. The lost pieces do not however detract from this delightful frame - it is designed to carry off lost pieces and wear. Its original finish is very antique looking with a rustic shabbied paint effect on it. Quite perfect for the scene it is displaying ie. an antique shop and street.
The painting is wonderful - so much detail in it. You can imagine exploring the back streets of a small town finding these sorts of shops and scenes. So accurate and colourful. As I say the print and glazing is in excellent condition so the ensemble of a perfect print and a antiqued frame go very well.
