Wonderful example of late Victorian, early Edwardian jug and bowl set. One of those super antique reminders of times gone by - need a wash? use the jug and bowl! Nowadays they make superb collectible and functional items. Use the jug as a pitcher or vase? The bowl for displaying all sorts of goods or even fruit? and of course both can be displayed as a set. This particular duo is in great condition - yes there are sign of wear - it si over 100 yrs old so no wonder, but there are no chips or breakages.

Royal Vitreous is the name given to this semi porcelain china material which many potteries specialised in it was a durable and attractive china used in the late 1800s. John Maddock and Sons was one of the potteries who perfected the art of using it and they made much every day and display items with it. Many of the items were decorated in floral motifs, and chonoiserie patterns. This particular set has lovely embellishments of a botanical natire, and would have had lots of gilt edging - most of which unfortunately has rubbed away. The decoration is very subtle and elegant. Lots of decoration around the rim of the bowl and the top of the jug.

As mentioned there are no chips or breakages to these pieces. There is some hairline cracks in the bowl (at the bottom) and some discolouration in the bowl along the sides, but these would not be noticeable if the bowl was full of 'something' or even if the jug is in it. To be honest, the bowl and certainly the jug are in VGC considering their age. The jug is quite intact bar losing some of the ligt decoration over the years.

Please have a look at the photos and video. This is a smashing antique set just waiting to be used or displayed.
