This impressive antique oak dresser base and rack is a striking example of mid 19th-century craftsmanship in the Georgian style. This two-piece unit features a dark stained solid oak frame with beautifully aged character and elegant proportions. The lower base consists of a deep single drawer flanked by two smaller drawers, all fitted with original ornate brass swan-neck handles and escutcheons. The scalloped apron and finely shaped cabriole legs give the piece a refined, historic silhouette reminiscent of 18th-century English furniture.

The upper rack offers an abundance of display space with a charming array of open shelves and small cubby compartments, ideal for showcasing crockery, pottery, or collectibles. Three central scalloped-edged display shelves are flanked by vertical side sections divided into multiple small display niches, with a pair of miniature drawers adding symmetry and extra storage to the base of the rack. The cornice is attractively dentilled and overhangs slightly, adding a touch of architectural detail.

Condition wise, this dresser is structurally solid and presents well, with a beautifully mellowed patina to the timber. There is evidence of age and use throughout, including some natural wear to the drawer runners, minor rubbing and surface scratches to the top, and a few small historic repairs to the base feet and rack shelves. These signs of wear are in keeping with its vintage status and enhance the dresser’s rustic, country appeal. The backboards are all original and secure, and the drawers open smoothly. There is minor wear, a pet, to the front of one of the cabriole legs and a split to the top, but this is just a thin line between to two planked top.

This piece would make a stunning and highly functional addition to a kitchen, dining room, hallway, or traditional country cottage interior. Its versatility also lends it well to use in a retail or café environment as a feature shelving unit. With its combination of period charm, practical storage and timeless good looks, this is a substantial and characterful piece of furniture that brings a touch of antique elegance to any setting.

A nice touch is that all of the drawer linings are solid oak, representative of early oak furniture.

It is very important to note that, as you can see in the images, the top is a bot darker than the base.

Delivery is free to mainland England and Wales only.

This will cost us between £60-80 to deliver, so if you wish collect from Lewes in East Sussex we will refund the saved courier charges.
The couriers will arrange a day and time window with you.
Delivery is to the front door. Should the item be large the courier will need a hand your end or contact us and we will arrange a more expensive two man delivery.
