This is an elegant and finely crafted antique French writing table or console, dating from around 1910–1920 and designed in the Louis XV style. Constructed from solid oak with a warm, rich patina, this table features graceful cabriole legs, beautifully carved side brackets, and an attractively moulded edge. The top is inset with a tooled and textured faux leather panel, aged to a rich warm brown tone that blends perfectly with the timber and adds period authenticity. The front of the table boasts a single drawer with deep floral scroll carvings and retains its original ornate brass escutcheon and drop handle. The shaped lower undershelf provides additional stability and visual interest, ideal for display or discreet storage.

This piece has timeless decorative appeal and is highly versatile in use. It could be employed as a writing desk, hallway console table, or a statement dressing table in a traditional or eclectic interior. The openwork carving to the side brackets adds a sense of lightness and refinement, balancing the solid craftsmanship of the oak structure.

In terms of condition, this antique table is in solid and functional order with general wear commensurate with its age. There are scuffs and surface scratches throughout, most visibly to the corners and edges of the top, with a couple of historical marks to the leather insert and minor losses to the carving at one bracket. The drawer runs well and the joints are sound, making it entirely usable as-is or a candidate for gentle restoration if preferred. The underside of the drawer reveals authentic early 20th-century construction with aged wood tones and some historic signs of use. Overall, it is a wonderfully atmospheric and usable piece with genuine antique charm.

The rear left-hand side bracket has been repaired, and there are still some splits visible, but the repair is solid.
