A stunning late Victorian to early 20th-century vintage brass fireplace fender featuring rare pierced cross and star motifs. The unusual fretwork pattern, combining crosses, bursts, and floral or symbolic shapes, evokes Gothic, ecclesiastical, or even Art Nouveau influences, making it a truly distinctive piece.
Crafted from solid brass, it was likely originally lacquered to preserve its shine but now has a beautiful aged patina that collectors often prefer for its authenticity and character. The fender has folded or rolled top and bottom edges for added strength and a smooth finish, with side returns for floor placement. Its seamless construction suggests hidden spot welds, brazing, or rivets beneath the surface.
