A very very pretty ceramic table lamp. Nice and round and so lovely. Delicate rose printed decoration, on a cream crackle glaze. Finished off with the most unusual slanted / diagonal gold ribbon around the middle. Quality pottery made in early mid century - likely late 40s/early 50s. Original wiring so rewiring is recommended, or go wire free with a rechargeable lightbulb.
I think the lightbulb fitment might still have part of the original bakelite fitment to it, the brown piece. There is a later edition, but still vintage, white piece on the fitment too. As mentioned, it is the original wiring. I have tested the wiring and the lamp does work, but the recommendation is to rewire. I have removed the plug and wire. Of course, you could also be very 21st century and go for a rechargeable lightbulb (bought on well known online marketplace), charge it, use it and go wire free!
The pretty round lamp is in lovely condition - there are no chips or cracks to it. The crackle glaze finish is also in very good vintage condition. The gold band around the middle has rubbed off in places, but is still very visible. It is fine around the base.
The lamp was made by Hughes of Longport, Burslem - who were very active as potters from late 1800s to late 1950s. So this may have been one of their last lamps!
It is a dainty and pretty lamp - certainly well suited to a bedroom, nursery, playroom or a country cottage type decor room. Likely to carry off a Cone, Bell, Empire style shade best.
