This is a high quality mid-century mirror. Really is something very special. Nothing like the mass produced gilt framed mirrors produced in the 60s and 70s. This is something else. Heavy and finished to a very high standard. Has a label on the back stating the manufacturer as George Trueman from Whitby, a company est in 1785. In wonderful condition and ready to hang. Not quite a square, but pretty close. Very interesting and definitely a mirror worthy of discussion.
The gesso around the frame on this mirror is finished in an antiqued brass gilt colour; an area on the left has a bronze gilt haze to it. It actually looks like a moulded metal finish, until you look more closely and feel it. It has a wonderful design around the edges inside and out, and the inner concave frame. Looking head on at the mirror, there are one or two minor pieces missing – middle left but this is quite well disguised, and bottom right corner also not that noticeable. Otherwise immaculate. The outside edges of the frame have marks commensurate with age. The bevelled glass is in excellent condition for its age, with only one or two very minor scratches, but honestly nothing to worry about.
The mirror is not quite a square, with the frame measuring 49.5cm x 52cm approx.. Odd but hey ho! It has string and hooks ready to hang, but also has mirror plates on each side for a different way, possibly safer on some modern wall types as this mirror has weight for its size, of hanging,
Has the label of George Trueman framers and mirrorers on the rear side. Quality board backing too.
