Mid century wooden frame, painted galleon fire screen - small wooden firescreen, fire guard 1900s

A super early to mid century small wooden firescreen with an interesting piece of painted detail. Solid wooden frame which has been stained or varnished over the years - and the centre circular shield has a wonderful Galleon painted on it - really different styled screen. Galleons are often depicted on firescreens (not sure why!) but this is one painted on wood, rather than moulded in brass or in tapestry. The fire screen or guard is in good vintage condition and is ready to be used.

The condition is one of charming age - I know we all say that, but it is. There has been staining and varnishing of the wood over the years, and due to age, and probably warmth from a fire, has worn off, come off in places. The finished look of the wood is therefore worn and aged - rustic and charming some might say. I have given it a good clean and once over with fresh stain which hides a few sins yet still keeping it authentic.

Thankfully the painted galleon is as bold and beautiful as it can be. Adding the uniqueness to this piece. Lovely if not perfect. A super practical vintage piece for a room with a fire or fireplace.
