Before we go further, I must mention that the top corner sections on both sides are missing. If they were intact, this piece would be priced at £1,495.

This stunning Victorian piece was originally the top section of a magnificent dresser. There are three holes in the bottom plank where screws would have secured it to the dresser base. There is no evidence of dowelling, suggesting it may have been an addition or repurposed solely as a plate rack. Either way, it is a magnificent example of solid oak craftsmanship.

Oak, as you know, is a sublimely beautiful wood of the highest quality, and working with it requires exceptional craftsmanship. This piece has been beautifully preserved and, apart from what appears to be minor accidents during its life, has retained its structural integrity over approximately 150 years.

The shape and design are timeless – a true classic antique look. It features two delightful cupboards on either side, each with a removable shelf, allowing you to store taller items if needed. Beneath the cupboards are charming cubby holes for added functionality.

The shelves are generously spaced, complete with plate trenches for securely displaying your treasured plates or items. Over the years, these shelves have been well-used and show some surface marks. However, these marks are minor and, once mounted on a wall, are barely noticeable.

The oak is finished in a medium-to-dark stain that highlights its natural beauty and retains a gorgeous patina. The warmth and character of this piece are captivating, and whether mounted on a wall or sitting atop a sideboard or dresser base, it will dramatically enhance any room with its size and imposing presence.
